About Us
The Singapore American School Business Club is currently one of the largest academic/interest club at the school. For the 2012-2013 school year, the club will implement its biggest make over since its founding.
With the founding of our sister club, Kiva Club, Business Club will be more actively involved in service. In short, we believe that one of the most important way to improve the standard of living of people around the world isn’t just donations and aids but also, and equally as important, to make sure they will eventually become self-sufficient. We believe that in order to achieve self-sufficiency, we have to improve their local economy. By providing loans to entrepreneurs in impoverished villages across the world, we are changing the finances of their families. And, when they have a greater income, they standard of living will improve, regardless of wether or not they also receive donations. We believe this is how to truly ameliorate poverty; allow their local village economy to grow, increasing their standard of living. By working with Kiva Club, we will be able to not only teach students about economy to loans to financing, but also allow students to apply their knowledge by coming up with a loan proposal for a specific individual/group. To learn more, please visit Kiva Club’s official webpage.
On another note, Business Club will be the place for students to talk , discuss, and debate about everything related to the study of economics. There will also be talks ranging from the history of economics to how entrepreneurs create and run their own business. Students will also have the chance to run their own business at school. All profits from the students’ own business will be donated to our sister club, Kiva Club. Business Club will also be publishing editorials on our website on what we think of the economic issues facing us today.
The officers of Business Club for the 2012 -2013 school year are:
